The Making of a Local Landmark: 400 Central

A new landmark is rising in the heart of St. Peterburg, and it is not only the talk of the town but also the talk of the Gulf Coast. Welcome to the Sunshine State 400 Central - now the tallest building on the West Coast of Florida. And of course, we’re right there alongside our long-term partner Suffolk Construction, bringing downtown’s most iconic building to life. Teaming up with Suffolk and Red Apple Group, we’re not just changing the St. Petersburg skyline, but delivering a state-of-the-art project that is setting new standards in luxury, efficiency, and safety – all in our very own backyard.

Standing 46 floors high and adding more than 300 units to the city,  400 Central is elevating luxury living in the Tampa Bay area. Its distinct design and world-class amenities are drawing high-end retail and top-tier restaurants, making it the ultimate destination to call home.

When you build the best, you want the best bringing it to life, which is where our #PDIFamily comes in. Our team took charge of the electrical, fixtures, life safety, DAS, and low voltage installations, ensuring a seamless project delivery for our partners, even with the fast-tracked project timeline of completing a floor every week! The quickness of the job site hasn’t deterred the team and the hard work to help pull off the floor-a-week feat hasn’t gone unnoticed by our partners.  See for yourself ⬇️

The efficiency and coordination needed to build a floor a week also applied to the support for the temporary systems that were vital to hitting the fast-paced timeline. That’s where Power Design’s expertise in working with municipal partners and multi-trades came in handy for Suffolk. “We have a large temporary cooling system that Power Design has been a huge part of, where we're able to support up to 500 tons of cooling while the interior construction is going on and the structure is still being erected,” Matt said. “That was one of the most complex parts of this project from an MEP standpoint. There was a lot of coordination involved and Power Design helped us a lot with efficiently coordinating with Duke Energy to provide the dedicated power that we needed for the system.”

Coordinating with our partners, open communication, and fast-tracking services through local municipalities ensured the timeline stayed on track while maintaining the quality of the constructed floors.
