Not Your Average Summer Camp: Power Youth

Members of our extended #PDIFamily across the country joined us for a week of summertime fun on and off the GRID! Our annual Power Youth program invites Power Design family members between the ages of 14-18 to St. Petersburg, Florida for a week of hands-on learning and in-the-classroom training, but that's not all.

Power Youth allows these talented teens to start their journey in the exciting, fast-paced world of construction, how to determine a path to success, and helps them determine what their path to success in the industry looks like. This year, the week-long camp welcomed 15 students to learn more about the industry, and see more opportunities other than the four-year traditional college path —  this year, they were able to meet our first graduating class of PowerU apprentices to learn what apprenticeship entails and how it can fast-track a career in the trades.

Throughout the week, they had the opportunity to work with different software and applications to see the ins and outs of bringing a project from concept to completion and more! Each day they got to meet and spend time with subject matter experts from Power Design like Senior Technical Instructor Ron Pelkey, and outside vendors that we work with on our job sites daily.

Aside from the behind-the-scenes fun, the Power Youth squad headed out to active job sites in Tampa and Longboat Key, Florida, to get boots-on-the-ground experience and see where all the magic happens. How many teenagers get to say they've done that?

This high school summer program is unlike any other — we're able to inspire these students to join the future generation or the workforce, whether in the field, on job sites, or in an office role. We're proud to continue shaping the skylines of tomorrow by inspiring today's youth.

Check out the fun they had on the GRID and more throughout the week!
