Run down, dingy college dorms are a thing of the past โ thanks to our #PDIFamily and our partners, like Hub on Campus, we're bringing student housing projects to life from coast-to-coast.
What sets the Hub on Campus team apart from the rest of our student housing projects? These Hub projects are designed to offer more than just a place for students to sleep; they produce environments that bring communities together and support academic success. With top-tier amenities, they are the hot spot for student living.
Some of our most prominent Hub on Campus projects are Hub Raleigh at NC State University, a 12-story high-rise with 665 units and more than 1 million square feet of space, and Hub V at Tucson, which features more than 150 units across nearly 300,000 square feet filled with luxurious amenities.
When it comes to mastering projects of those sizes and meeting timelines that are driven by a hard deadline like the start of the school year, its success all comes down to communication between the office, the field, and our partners.
We sat down with Project Superintendent Russell Tulk and our friends from FINDORFF to talk about Hub V at Tucson and what it takes to meet deadlines and exceed expectations.
A key to helping this project run smoothly? The prefabrication support from the LINK. The prefabrication for the more than 150 units at the Hub V helps keep the project on track and on time, which eases project delivery for both our partners and us. Pre-packaged materials being delivered to the job site on time also helps us set off any other scheduling obstacles we could run into.
What sets this project apart from other prefabricated projects is the complexity of the prefab process โ while many projects involve micro-units with about 60 assemblies, our smallest unit here started at 60 assemblies and grew in complexity. Speaking of complexity, our commitment to pre-coordination and meticulous pre-planning to avoid delays and issues was something our friends at FINDORFF greatly appreciated throughout this project. With plans that include every light switch, outlet, and then some, we were able to work together and see where issues could arise, and tackle them before we even enter the unit โ talk about innovative practices.
As we've seen the way our prefabrication and distribution center has helped us take our projects to the next level, we're excited to share we're expanding! Take a sneak peek at what's to come, here.
Teamwork is a core value we pride ourselves on at Power Design, and FINDORFF could not agree more. Tony Bortz and Colin Redman from FINDORFF witnessed this commitment firsthand at Hub V, where dedicated superintendents, multiple foremen managing specific areas, and apprentices supporting sub-crews worked together to ensure efficient scheduling, seamless operations, and dependable manpower, in addition to constant communication between all the teams and phases.
As the demand for quality student housing continues to grow, Power Design remains at the forefront of delivering innovative solutions that meet the needs of modern students.
