Simplifying Complexities in the Lighting and Fixtures Space
Written by: Power Design
In recent years, the lighting and fixtures industry has seen an exciting evolution as aesthetics, functionality, and technology converge to elevate residential and commercial spaces. Designers and developers alike face both opportunities and challenges in delivering cutting-edge lighting solutions that enhance a building’s atmosphere and usability.
By leveraging expansive resources and global manufacturers, and a dedicated 55-person lighting team, we are equipped to evolve with the industry and ever-changing trends. At Power Design, we work hand-in-hand with our partners to ensure projects are designed with excellence while optimized for materials, cost, and construction.
From the constraints of urban development to the changing landscape of distribution, hear from our Director of Strategic Accounts, Kim Hill, on how we’re meeting trends and overcoming industry challenges head-on with tailored lighting solutions. Our proactive approach, attention to driving factors, and our responsiveness ensure we exceed client expectations with budget, design, and delivery requirements. Let us show you what we mean ⬇️
Architectural Lighting: Low-Profile and High-Efficiency
As the trend for streamlined, low-profile light fixtures continues to rise, we’re seeing an emphasis on minimalist, highly functional designs. Trimless downlights, low-glare options, and fixtures with warm dimming or tunable white capabilities are now must-haves, especially in wellness-focused spaces. However, accommodating these innovative designs for urban construction sites with limited footprints and storage can be challenging.
As a solution for limited storage capacity on job sites, we leverage our 208Ksq. ft. distribution center - the LINK - which provides bonded, insured storage and JIT (just-in-time) delivery of project material. This approach streamlines flow, ensuring time-sensitive fixtures arrive as needed, minimizing on-site storage demands typical in high-density urban projects. By using QR-coded inventory management, we maintain quality control at every step, tracking each fixture from warehouse arrival to installation.
Residential Lighting: Compact and Selectable Functionality
We see residential lighting leaning towards smaller apertures and selectable features to fit seamlessly in modern spaces. Recessed or flush-mounted designs offering lower glare, quieter ceilings, and a more integrated appearance are popular. Alabaster accents, black and bronze finishes, and even smart fan designs with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi options are increasingly sought after to enhance unit interiors.
For large-scale residential projects, we’re addressing both the demand for these personalized elements and the complexity of bulk delivery. By offering staging and kitting services, Power Design is pre-organizing shipments by floor and unit, color-coding materials with shrink-wrap for efficient on-site identification. Pre-packaging on smaller pallets allows material to be dropped directly into units, reducing shrinkage and onsite labor for larger multi-family projects.
Advanced Exterior Lighting: Efficiency with Impact
Exterior lighting remains a high-impact area, with RGB and RGB+W façades and low-glare architectural bollards continuing to trend. These fixtures can transform building exteriors, providing both illumination and aesthetic wow factor. However, achieving these dynamic designs often requires specialized fixtures with specific installation needs and timelines, further challenged by a competitive market.
Our partnerships with over 1,100 global suppliers allow us to source high-demand products, at various price points and time constraints. When distributors struggle to meet deadlines or experience supply chain delays, Power Design’s robust network of lighting professionals and resources enables us to quickly pivot, securing alternative solutions to address a project need. Thanks to our multi-trade background, financial support, and the strength of our relationships, clients can rely on our staying power as a solutions provider, even in challenging market conditions.
In a fast-paced market, where lighting distributors are facing financial and operational setbacks, we understand that reliability and transparency are crucial. Our Special Operations Division stands ready to assist when other providers fall short.
With our team of lighting project managers, our customers are assigned a dedicated point of contact throughout the duration of the project for single source accountability, streamlined communication, and a seamless project delivery.
Our family-owned background instills core values that drive us to go beyond typical service expectations. As a result, every project benefits from consistent communication, quality control, and flexibility. This client-centric approach allows us to respond rapidly to evolving needs, separate ourselves from competitors, and ultimately deliver lighting solutions that are on-trend, on time, and all with a white glove level of service.
