Leading by example for the females in Operations at Power Design, we’re excited to introduce our newest addition to the Regional Vice President team, Nelzay Rivas Pulgar.
In celebrating International Women’s Day and the 25th anniversary of Women in Construction Week, we’re highlighting Nelzay — a one-of-a-kind #WIC who’s breaking barriers and setting the stage for future females entering the industry.
Nelzay has been part of our #PDIFamily for nearly 10 years, leaving her legacy on the construction industry over the last 24 years – how could we not celebrate her?
Growing up in a construction-focused family in Venezuela, the passion for the industry has been engrained in her from a young age. Her career started with a Design-Build project, and seeing it come to life from the drawings to completion is what lit the fire in her to pursue this path. From Project Engineer to Senior Project Manager and now RVP, she has paved the way for other women to disrupt the industry.
In sitting down with Power Design’s one and only female RVP, we got the inside scoop on what it’s like being a Woman in Construction at Power Design.
What value do women bring to the industry?
“Generally speaking, women are very organized and dynamic which are important factors to this fast-paced environment. We can apply our knowledge regardless of the level, but we’re also curious enough to ask questions and keep advancing. Our empathetic side gives us a high sense of emotional intelligence — something that this industry needs.”
What do you love most about being a Woman in Construction at Power Design?
“Power Design offers so much more than a typical construction company, aside from the growth opportunities and energetic environment – you also become an integral member of a growing team no matter your role, everyone’s contribution is represented in a project.”
What advice would you give a young woman interested in entering the trades?
“It’s simple, be open to the experience, be curious, and get involved. Persistency is key but so is staying organized. This is a dynamic environment, you’ll always be evolving and going through different experiences, and meeting new people – you will see find purpose through results and seeing a project come to life. ”
For Nelzay, her hope is to bring all of her knowledge to the table to help her team grow. Since she’s been in their shoes and taken every step they have to get to where she is, she’s ready to help them improve in any way she can.
At Power Design, we empower women to take the next step, speak up, and break industry standards by being a #WomanInConstruction. Hear more advice from our own #PDIFamily below and stay tuned for more #WICWeek23 content throughout the week!
